Blending Techniques- Stippling, Buffing or Dabbing?

Blending Techniques- Stippling, Buffing or Dabbing?

How many hours do you spend watching YouTube tutorials and still can't get the makeup look you want? Well you’re not alone. Choosing the right foundation and shade is just the beginning of the struggle. What matters is how well you apply your makeup.

In addition to makeup brushes and beauty blenders, you have a lot of tools at your disposal to help you achieve your desired look. But here are a couple of well used blending techniques that might help you achieve your makeup look and save your day:

STIPPLING:

Stippling Makeup Technique

Stippling motions are ideal for creating a clean base, and give you a softer foundation application. Because of its light finish, it's often said to give an airbrush effect to your makeup. The technique involves working small dots of makeup on to your face and blending to ensure a seamless finish.

PROS

  • Gives an airbrush effect to your skin
  • Doesn’t soak up a lot of product
  • Gives full coverage
  • Photo-friendly too
  • Works with almost all types of skin
  • Has multiple application uses; for applying bronzer, foundation or highlighter

CONS

  • Takes some time to get the required finish
  • Can sometimes make your foundation look streaky
  • Not so good for large pores

BUFFING:

Buffing Makeup Technique

If we talk about buffing techniques, they can help you with sheer coverage of makeup. If you are always on the go, buffing can be your best friend since it takes in a good amount of product in a short amount of time. Brushing involves small circular motions or swirling your brush gently to help you get a good coverage and even out the product on your skin (yes, even the large pores).

PROS

  • Gives a sheer layer or makeup
  • Requires much less time than other techniques
  • Picks up enough product for a one time application
  • Works well with powders, blush etc.

CONS

  • Not the best choice for sensitive skin; acne prone skin
  • It can enhance your dry patches and leave flakes
  • Not very flash friendly (can show up your texture or fine lines on flash)

DABBING:

Dabbing makeup
Dabbing is one of the most common elements in our everyday makeup routine. When we dab makeup on, we essentially pat some foundation or concealer onto our faces, more like a touch-up to complete the look. The method of dabbing concealer in a "V" shape is often said to effectively conceal dark circles.

PROS

  • Helps makeup to settle in and smoothen out your skin
  • Is a multipurpose technique, can be used with a makeup brush or a beauty blender

CONS

  • Needs to be blended properly
  • Is time consuming
